Troubleshooting Chrome Display Issues in eKool Messaging

If messages in eKool’s chat appear strange - for example typing overwrites existing text, copy–paste does not work, or text fields behave unexpectedly - the issue is usually caused by the browser environment, not eKool itself.

This guide helps you check the most common causes.

For the best experience, use one of the following supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome (latest version)
  • Microsoft Edge (latest version)
  • Firefox (latest version)

Step 1: Test in another browser

To rule out Chrome-specific issues:

  1. Open Edge or Firefox.
  2. Log into ekool.eu.
  3. Open Messaging and test typing/copy–paste.

If the issue only appears in Chrome, the problem is likely related to your Chrome profile or local extensions.

Step 2: Confirm Chrome is up to date

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Menu -> Help -> About Google Chrome.
  3. Chrome automatically checks for updates.
  4. Relaunch the browser if prompted.

Step 3: Check for “overwrite mode” (INS key like behaviour)

Chrome does not support toggling typing mode with the INS key, so text being overwritten is almost always caused by:

  • A browser extension modifying text fields
  • Accessibility or keyboard tools
  • System-level typing helpers
  • Corrupted browser profile

To confirm the issue is browser-specific:

  1. Open eKool in Incognito mode: Menu -> New Incognito Window.
  2. Log in and open Messaging.
  3. Try typing in the chat.

If the problem disappears in Incognito mode, continue with extension checks (Step 5).

Step 4: Clear cache and site data

This fixes issues where old scripts or cached resources cause strange behaviour.

  1. Menu -> Settings -> Privacy and security.
  2. Select Clear browsing data.
  3. Choose Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data.
  4. Time range: All time.
  5. Confirm with Clear data.
  6. Close and reopen Chrome.
  7. Log back into eKool.

Step 5: Disable browser extensions

Extensions often interfere with editors, especially grammar checkers, adblockers, content filters and clipboard managers.

  1. Menu -> Extensions -> Manage Extensions.
  2. Toggle off all extensions.
  3. Refresh eKool and test typing in chat.
  4. Re-enable extensions one by one to identify the problematic one.

Good to know!

Grammarly, LanguageTool, adblockers and security extensions are the most common causes of typing/copy-paste problems.

Step 6: Reset Chrome settings (if problems persist)

This will not remove your bookmarks or passwords, but it resets Chrome’s behaviour to default.

  1. Menu -> Settings -> Reset settings.
  2. Choose Restore settings to their original defaults.
  3. Confirm with Reset settings.
  4. Restart the browser.

Step 7: Check your device keyboard tools

Some devices have system features that can override normal text entry:

  • Windows Ease of Access keyboard settings
  • Third-party typing assistants
  • Clipboard managers
  • Overlay keyboards or accessibility software

If you recently installed new software or changed keyboard settings, disable them temporarily and test again.
